Fans of football came together to pay tribute to the late John Motson during the Premier League game between Crystal Palace and Liverpool on Saturday night.
The broadcasting legend died this week at the age of 77, leading to a wave of tributes from football fans, players, presenters and commentators.
Selhurst Park was the location of Motson’s last televised commentary between the Eagles and West Bromwich Albion in May 2018, for the BBC’s ‘Match of the Day’.
In tribute, fans rose to celebrate Motson’s legacy across the football world in the 77th minute of the league match, which ended scoreless.
While Motson made his name as BBC’s leading commentator, the tribute was broadcast by Sky Sports, who paid tribute to the great man after his passing.

Sky’s Martin Tyler informed viewers of the importance of Selhurst Park at the end of the legend’s career, before saying: ‘The stadium rising to give their thanks’.
It is one of several tributes planned to Motson during the weekend’s football. A sheepskin coat and microphone will be placed in his old commentary position at Wembley for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.
The famous sheepskin coat became synonymous with Motson during his broadcasting career on the BBC, but it was only ever meant to keep him warm during particularly cold experiences reporting from games.
He continued to follow the sport closely despite stepping away as a professional, and spent his last night watching Manchester City’s Champions League exploits in a village pub in Milton Keynes with friends.
