Croatian star gets "strangest red card ever" for the way he took bizarre penalty
A Croatian footballer has received a bizarre red card after stuttering in his penalty run-up.
Dinamo Zagreb forward Bruno Petkovic stepped up in an attempt to double his side's lead with a last-minute penalty against Istra 1961 in the 1. HNL.
With both sides down to ten men, Petkovic was handed the golden opportunity to stop any unnecessary nerves from the spot.
However, when he went to perform his run-up, Petkovic stuttered to throw the keeper off before cooly slotting the ball into the corner.
And with the forward already on a yellow card, the referee brandished a second and disallowed the goal.
One fan joked on Twitter: "Bruno Petkovic with perhaps the most unique way of getting sent off this year…"
Another added: "Has he been booked for taking a penalty sarcastically? Even the opposition defender thought that was a terrible call."
Soccer AM even described it as possibly the "strangest red card ever".
Fortunately, for the Croatian champions, the decision didn't prove decisive on the outcome of the fixture.
And Zagreb were able to grab their second goal late on through Stefan Ristovski.

Some fans were confused as to why Jorginho's goals are regularly allowed to stand, but Petkovic was sent off for his troubles.
Feinting in the run-up to confuse opponents is allowed, similar to Jorginho's hop or Neymar's stutter.
However, feinting when kicking the ball once the player has completed his run-up is considered unsporting and an infringement of Law 14.
