Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a sensational move to Manchester City after it was reported that his agent Jorge Mendes was trying to find his client a new club, but following discussions with Juventus, the agent has now been spotted landing in Paris.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s super-agent Jorge Mendes has been spotted landing in Paris, after holding discussions with Juventus about a potential move to Manchester City.
The Portuguese star is out of contract at Juventus next summer and is open to a move away from Turin before Tuesday’s deadline.
It was originally thought that Ronaldo would stay at the club, but now it seems that the forward is keen to leave Italy, with City in pole position to sign the former United star.
However, despite a return to Manchester looking increasingly likely, Mendes has been spotted landing in Paris, stirring rumours that a move to Paris Saint Germain could be possible.
Juventus are open to selling Ronaldo to save on the €31million (£25.5m) salary the 36-year-old is currently receiving at the club, and also would demand at least £25m for the forward who they spent €100m (£86m) on in 2018.
Although the fee is extremely cut-price when taking into consideration that Ronaldo is one of the all-time greats, only a select few clubs in world football could facilitate his mammoth wage requirements.
The front-runners for a potential move were always going to be City and PSG, but with the French side already securing a move for fellow superstar Lionel Messi, it seemed Manchester would be the likely destination.
Despite this, according to sport journalist Francesco Porzio, Mendes has landed in Paris on Thursday afternoon after a meeting with Juventus.
It is not known what the exact reason for the agent’s arrival is, but with Mendes trying to secure a deal away from Juventus for his client, it is possible that he could meet with PSG bosses.
PSG have recently received an improved €170m (£145m) offer for Kylian Mbappe from Real Madrid, suggesting that the mouth-watering front three of Neymar-Mbappe-Messi could be in major doubt, but a move could be done to play Ronaldo alongside the remaining pair.
Ronaldo and Messi have shared the stage as two of the world’s best for over a decade, regularly battling in a league of their own for the Ballon D’or while playing for arch-rivals Barcelona and Madrid, but a deal to PSG could see the pair play alongside one another.
PSG have previously stated that they weren’t interested in adding Ronaldo to their ranks, but now that an exit for Mbappe draws ever closer, Mauricio Pochettino and his bosses may re-think their initial decision.
Neymar-Ronaldo-Messi would undoubtably be one of the most eye-catching front threes of all-time, but PSG aren’t thought to be willing to pay the £25m transfer fee that Juventus are requiring, with the majority of their business this summer being done via free transfers.
City missed out on Tottenham striker Harry Kane this summer after a deal couldn’t be completed with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, and Pep Guardiola is still on the lookout for a natural centre-forward.
Ronaldo could be the icing on the cake for City, and it would also disrupt their United neighbours in the process.
Should City land the Portuguese star, it would almost certainly tarnish Ronaldo’s legacy at United, but would make for an unmissable Manchester derby this season.
