Gareth Bale has been hailed as the best-ever athlete and not even health-freak Cristiano Ronaldo can match the Welshman, a doctor has claimed.

Ronaldo's maintained a phenomenal physique whilst performing at the highest level throughout his career. And he still possesses a body to die for at the age of 37.

It was revealed last year that Ronaldo sticks to a strict diet consisting of steak and avocadoes to keep his body fat at seven percent. Plus the attacker forks out an incredulous £255-a-month for a gym membership in Chesire to stay in shape since his return to Manchester United last summer.

However, neither Ronaldo's prudent food selection or expensive workouts are enough for him to rival Bale in the athleticism department.

As according to ex-Real Madrid doctor Jesus Olmo, Bale's the greatest ever athlete he's witnessed.

Olmo made the bold claim after working with Bale and Ronaldo when the pair were together at Real Madrid. And after intensely scrutinising them both, he concluded that Bale's head and shoulders ahead of Ronaldo, or any other sports performer for that matter.

Olmo explained to Ideal in 2020: "Perhaps the best athlete I've ever seen is Bale. Gareth Bale is a natural athlete who can excel in practically any sport.

"He has incredible athletic skills, and I would also say technical skills. He is the one who impressed me most in all aspects."

Olmo's assessment will come as a surprise to many as Bale spent the majority of his time in Spain on Real's injury list, whereas Ronaldo's remained an elite performer, going onto conquer the Serie A with Juventus, and was United's top scorer last season. But Ronaldo could get the chance to debunk Olmo's statement if he makes a move to the MLS in January, where Bale plays for Los Angeles FC.

CR7's expected to leave United in the New Year after a series of bust ups with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag. And the Portuguese star's been linked with a switch to David Beckham's Inter Miami side, who rival Bale's team in the American league.
