Cristiano Ronaldo scores hat-trick but is denied ‘best ever goal’ by super save
Cristiano Ronaldo picked up a record 10th international hat-trick as he helped Portugal demolish Luxembourg in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday evening.
But the Manchester United forward was denied what would have been one of his greatest goals ever by Luxembourg goalkeeper Anthony Moris who came up with one of the best saves of his career to keep Ronaldo at bay.
Ronaldo fired Portugal into an early lead with two penalties inside the opening 15 minutes, before Bruno Fernandes and Joao Palhinha both added goals either side of half-time.
The 36-year-old completed yet another hat-trick with just a few minutes left on the clock though as he headed home from close-range.
It was a night to remember as he broke another goalscoring record to become the first player to bring up 10 international hat-tricks.
But it could have been an even more memorable night for Ronaldo as he was denied a wonder goal by Luxembourg stopper Moris.
In the 68th minute, the former Real Madrid and Juventus man expertly controlled a fine cross, and flicking it up slightly with his first touch, he proceeded to attempt a bicycle kick with his back completely to goal.

The effort went down the centre of Moris' goal but was just inches below the crossbar, forcing him into an excellent save to tip the ball over, having edged towards his left.
Ronaldo could barely believe his effort had been kept out as he grimaced on the turf before getting up and continuing to shake his head, despite being 3-0 up at the time.
