Cristiano Ronaldo links up with F1 wild child Nikita Mazepin for gym session

Cristiano Ronaldo has linked up with Formula One star Nikita Mazepin for a gym session ahead of the new racing season, which commences in March.

A pulsating 2021 championship went down to the wire with Max Verstappen pipping Lewis Hamilton to the crown in controversial circumstances.

Having pitted for fresh tyres, intervention from the safety car allowed the Dutch driver to start behind Hamilton on the final lap and the Brit was powerless to prevent Verstappen from overtaking and claiming a first F1 title.

Wild child Mazepin, 22, ended his debut campaign in 21st and is taking preparations seriously to climb the ladder in 2022.

The Haas-Ferrari driver has been snapped working out with Manchester United star Ronaldo who is known for his relentless attitude in maintaining his physique.

Posting the photo to Instagram with the caption "Best gym session this year so far @cristiano," Mazepin was taking no shortcuts in his pre-season routine.

Not quite in hand with notepad and pen, the Russian was taking notes from the workout master.

In 2018, Ronaldo revealed he had a 'biological age' of just 23 and stated could continue playing until he was over 40 years old.

Those calculations would make his body's current age 27 – often touted as the start of the peak years for a professional footballer.

Ronaldo's unbreakable mindset has not only wowed Mazepin but the rest of his Man Utd teammates.

Reserve goalkeeper Lee Grant says the attitude of the entire squad has changed his arrival with the Red Devils amazed by Ronaldo's dietary routines.

"You’ve got some apple crumble or you’ve got a bit of brownie and cream or what not,” Grant told talkSPORT about United's pre-match meal.

"I tell you now, not one player touched the apple crumble and custard, not one player went up for that brownie because everybody was sat down and one of the lads said to me, 'What has Cristiano got on his plate?'

"So, we were having a little goosey gander at what he has got and obviously it is the cleanest, most healthy plate you can imagine.

"And it just cracked me up how not one single player dared get up and have that junk food that was laid out."
