Cristiano Ronaldo is 'irritated' with Man Utd teammate after Liverpool loss
Manchester United’s senior squad members are ‘exasperated’ by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s failings with his attacking players and have noticed that Cristiano Ronaldo has become ‘visibly irritated’ with Mason Greenwood as a result.
Solskjaer’s position as manager is under major threat following United’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
On Monday, reports claimed that United’s hierarchy are now considering sacking Solskjaer before the team’s next Premier League game against Tottenham on Saturday.
The comprehensive defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side has now left United with three defeats in their last four Premier League games, while it’s understood that members of the squad are openly questioning Solskjaer’s position at the club.
According to ESPN, among the concerns raised by some of United’s players is Solskjaer’s inability to get the best out of Ronaldo and Greenwood as a pairing.
The report claims that United’s players are aware that Ronaldo and Greenwood do not pass to each other that often on the pitch and that Ronaldo has become ‘visibly irritated’ by what he believes to be poor decision making from the 20-year-old forward.
It’s also reported that United players are unhappy with the lack of lack of tactical direction from Solskjaer and feel there is a ‘favouritism’ towards members of the squad who are underperforming.
Ronaldo has now gone four Premier League games without scoring a goal – his longest run in the league since he was with Real Madrid in 2015.
The 36-year-old has also been forced to hit back at critics who have questioned his work rate since returning to United.
‘I know when the team needs my help defensively,’ Ronaldo told Sky Sports.
‘But my role in the club is to win, help the team to win and to score goals – is part of my job.
‘The people who don’t want to see that is because they don’t like me but to be honest I’m 36, I win everything so am I going to be worried about the people who say bad things about me? I sleep good at night. I go to my bed with my conscience very good. Keep going with that because I will still close mouths and win things.
‘Criticism is always part of the business. I’m not worried about that. And I see it as a good thing, to be honest. If they worry about me or they speak about me, it’s because they know my potential and value in football still. So it’s good. I’ll give you an example: if you’re in a school and you’re the best student, you ask the worst student if he likes the best, they’ll say they don’t like him.
‘I think the main word is that I’m still happy and enjoying football. It doesn’t matter how many things I won in my career. I win everything but I’m still motivated. I’m in a new chapter of my life, even with my age, and this is why I am here – to try to win and I think Manchester needs to be at this level of winning and thinking to win big things so I’m here to help.’
