Cristiano Ronaldo has ‘added to’ the sense that Manchester United are a team of individuals, Jamie Carragher has sensationally claimed. The Red Devils are enduring a difficult period of form and Ronaldo’s frustration appeared to boil over after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Everton.

Legendary forward Ronaldo completed a remarkable return to Old Trafford on the final day of the transfer window.

He requested to leave Juventus and moved back to United 12 years after he departed in a then-world record deal to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo enjoyed an excellent start to his second spell but United have suffered a dip in their performances of late.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have won just one of their last four matches in all competitions, with Ronaldo’s added-time winner against Villarreal sealing an important Champions League success.

The 36-year-old scored four goals in his first three appearances but has now not scored in his last two Premier League outings. He was a substitute for Saturday’s draw with Everton and appeared to storm down the tunnel after the match.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher feels that Solskjaer does not have a team with much cohesion and has slammed them for being a team of individuals. He feels that Ronaldo only adds to that feeling.

“They remain a team of individuals rather than a team. Cristiano Ronaldo has added to that rather than fixed it,” Carragher told the Telegraph.

“That’s why, despite a brilliant squad, they are not yet at the level of the other three.

“Dropping five points in their last two home games highlighted lingering inconsistency.”

Former United defender Gary Neville has also taken aim at his former team-mate Ronaldo. The ex-England man was unhappy when the forward stormed off after the draw with Everton.

Neville is concerned that Ronaldo might have undermined Solskjaer.

“I watched the game and I watched him walk off. I can’t say I like it,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“Is Cristiano upset when he doesn’t play? Yes. If he upset when he doesn’t score? Yes. Is Cristiano annoyed as hell when the team doesn’t win? Of course.

“We know these things, he doesn’t need to prove that.

“He walked off the pitch muttering to himself which in some ways throws the questions up in the air. ‘What’s he saying? Who’s he annoyed with?’

“And it can only come back to the manager.

“So I do think actions like that – Ronaldo is smart enough to know – will bring real pressure, more pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“It is what it is but I think that has to be managed in the next couple of months. Cristiano won’t always score and can’t play ever single game, but I think if he’s going to walk off like that it’s going to put immense pressure on Ole.

“There’s no doubt the talk after the game was about the manager.”
