Cristiano Ronaldo was visibly frustrated on the Portugal bench during his side’s World Cup opener as he had his celebration repeated by Ghanaian Osman Bukari, as he scored his side’s second goal on Thursday. His header was just a consolation however, and was forced to sprint back to the half-way line shortly after for the kick-off before Portugal’s 3-2 win was confirmed.
Ronaldo, who earlier in the game had won and scored a penalty to open the scoring, had not long been substituted off the pitch as he was spotted on the bench upset following Bukari’s celebration.
The 37-year-old free agent following his release from Manchester United, became the first player to score in five World Cups as he despatched his spot kick past Lawrence Ati-Zigi in the 65th minute.
Former Swansea City forward Andre Ayew drew Ghana level in an action-packed second half, and he was then brought off and was still celebrating his own goal when Joao Felix latched onto Bruno Fernandes’ through ball before putting Portugal ahead for the second time.

Fernandes was the provider for Portugal’s third shortly after when he played through AC Milan’s Rafael Leao who finished well, as Fernando Santos’ side thought they had secured the three points in their opening game and took Ronaldo off the pitch.
Ghana continued to attack however late in the game, and Bukari met a cross from the left to power a header past Diogo Costa after he got free from Joao Cancelo at the back post. He then decided against grabbing the ball and attempting to resume play quickly with just a few minutes left to play, and instead ran to the corner and celebrated with Ronaldo’s iconic Siu move.
The camera panned to Ronaldo on the substitutes’ bench after Bukari mocked him with the celebration, and the ex-United man clearly was not impressed.
He and Portugal had the last laugh however, despite Inaki Williams’ late attempt to sneak behind goalkeeper Costa when the stopper had the ball, but slipped with the goal at his mercy in stoppage time.
Despite the victory, former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness was not impressed with Portugal’s performance. “They weren’t very professional, Portugal,” Souness told ITV. “I expected a lot more from them, I expected a lot more going forward and I expected them to be solid in defence, I thought they were ordinary tonight.”
