Cristiano Ronaldo was left seething with Fred during Manchester United's 3-2 Champions League win over Atalanta on Wednesday night – gesturing furiously when the Brazilian failed to tee him up in front of goal.

United produced a dramatic comeback after falling two goals behind against the Italian club, lifting the pressure on under-fire boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just four days after their 4-2 thumping away at Leicester.

Atalanta looked like running out comfortable winners when they stormed into an early 2-0 lead at Old Trafford, with Mario Pasalic breaking the deadlock after 15 minutes.

Almost 15 minutes later Merih Demiral turned in their second, but Marcus Rashford pulled one back for the hosts eight minutes after the break.

That set United up to turn the tables in a sensational second half; first drawing level when Harry Maguire popped up with a crucial equaliser, before Ronaldo headed home an incredible winner nine minutes from time.

It proved a whirlwind of a night for Solskjaer's men, who appeared destined for defeat when they squandered a host of wonderful opportunities towards the end of the first half.

Rashford was first denied by the woodwork right on the stroke of half-time, racing through on goal and lifting his shot onto the top of the crossbar.

Yet, it was Fred's miss two minutes earlier which felt like the golden chance that went begging for United.

Following some neat interplay with Bruno Fernandes, he charged into the box and only had the keeper to beat.

As the midfielder lined up a shot at goal, Ronaldo could be seen screaming for the ball with the goal gaping in front of him.

Unfortunately for CR7, though, Fred chose to go for glory himself and completely missed the target, curling his effort past the far post.

The Portuguese superstar was not best pleased with his team-mate, so much so that an excitable Robbie Savage shrieked on commentary for BT Sport: "Look at Ronaldo!"

Fortunately for Fred, his blushes were spared when Ronaldo powered home a bullet header to hand United a precious victory.

Solskjaer will hope it marks the beginning of a positive run of form for his side, having seen his position come under intense scrutiny after Saturday's defeat at Leicester.
