Cristiano Ronaldo ‘earning £388k from fake followers’ on every Instagram post

Cristiano Ronaldo is estimated to be earning £388,000 from fake followers on every single sponsored Instagram post, according to a new study.

New research compiled by livefootballtickets.com into which footballers make the most money from fake followers on Instagram found that Ronaldo came out on top.

He beat out the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar as the player with the most fake followers and the highest estimated earnings from fake followers per sponsored post.

The Manchester United forward recently became the first person to surpass 400million followers on the social media platform and currently has a total of 403million followers.

The research used Instagram credibility tool grin.co to find out the number of fake followers each player has, with social media earnings calculator inkifi.com was also used.

Ronaldo came out on top in the standings with 92.46million fake followers, which accounts for 23% of his total following.

He is estimated to earn £388,570 from fake followers per sponsored post, with the estimated total per post standing at £1.69million.

The 37-year-old's illegitimate earnings per post stand at 35.3% more than Lionel Messi's, who earns an estimated £287,210 from fake followers per post.

He came in second in the rankings, with 23% of his followers believed to be fake, amounting to 70.61million accounts.

Ronaldo also earns an estimated 10,000% more than his club and international team-mate Bruno Fernandes, who is thought to gain £3,846 from fake followers per post.

Paris Saint-Germain trio Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Sergio Ramos make up the rest of the top five, although their earnings from fake followers are considerably lower.

Gareth Bale, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Karim Benzema and Mohamed Salah were all found to earn in excess of £40,000 per post from fake followers.

Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez closes out the top 10 with an estimated £39,107 per post thanks to his 9.44 fake followers.

Bale and Benzema were found to have the highest proportion of fake followers, though, both coming in at 24% of their total following.
