Cristiano Ronaldo could wear No.21 at Man Utd if Edinson Cavani keeps No.7
Cristiano Ronaldo could wear a number previously worn by the likes of Henning Berg, Diego Forlan and Dong Fangzhuo should Edinson Cavani keep hold of the iconic No.7.
The 36-year-old has returned to Manchester United on a two-year deal after leaving Juventus, but looks unlikely to pick up the number he wore before leaving in 2009.
Since that move to Real Madrid, each of Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia, Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez have worn the famous number before it was handed to Cavani last season.
Ronaldo, however, has worn the same digit since his first season in La Liga back in 09/10 in which he wore nine, marking 12 consecutive seasons building his CR7 brand.
Although there have been links between the Uruguay forward and Barcelona on Transfer Deadline Day, he looks likely to stay put which means the club cannot reassign his squad number.
Additionally, MEN report that Ronaldo could pick up the No.21 if the Red Devils fail in their bid to take the 7 away from Cavani before the Premier League returns.
Daniel James, Ander Herrera and Rafael have worn that number for United most recently, with the former on his way to Leeds in a permanent deal worth around £25m.
