Cristian Romero looks set to return for Tottenham against Aston Villa

Cristian Romero STARTS for Tottenham against Aston Villa after returning home from Argentina’s wild World Cup celebrations… with the defender set to make his first appearance for Spurs since October

Cristian Romero will start for Tottenham against Aston Villa in what will be his first club game since October, just weeks after lifting the World Cup with Argentina.

Spurs posted a picture of the defender’s shirt on Twitter with an Argentine flag, as they prepare to get their league campaign back on track after a rocky few results.

Romero was a key part of Argentina’s success in Qatar, playing in all seven games including a full 120 minutes in the final.

Romero’s father previously said his son ‘would not have much time to enjoy’ the triumph as he was wanted back in North London.

He had been overlooked in recent games by Antonio Conte, though, and has not played for his club side since their 2-0 loss to Manchester United  in October.

Romero’s international teammate Emiliano Martinez, who starred in two penalty shoot-outs in the tournament but has since been criticised for his celebrations, is not expected to start in the Villa goal.

Spurs have won just one of their last five games, and are beginning to drift down the table after a solid start to the season.

They came back well against Brentford to steal a point after being 2-0 down, but will need to start games better if they are to finish in the Champions League places.

Villa lost their first game back after the World Cup but were up against a strong Liverpool side, and will be hoping to find. some consistency after an odd run of results before the break.
