Cristian Romero kicks Spurs goalscorer Emerson ‘up the a***’ during celebration

Cristian Romero kicked Tottenham Hotspur goalscorer Emerson Royal "up the a***" during the goal celebrations.

Royal gave Spurs the lead in his 50th Premier League appearance as they cruised to a 2-0 victory at home to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon. Despite manager Antonio Conte's absence, Spurs were able to pick up all three points and climb into the top four, with Heung-min Son coming off the bench to add a second goal.

Royal calmly slotted the ball past Lukasz Fabianski to put his side in front shortly before the hour mark, but fans were left confused by Romero's antics during the celebrations.

As the rest of the Spurs players surrounded Royal to congratulate him on scoring, a passionate Romero had a different approach.

Unable to get close enough to his team-mate to hug him, the Argentine defender could be seen reaching his leg round and kicking Royal's rear.

He then joined the rest of the players in high-fiving and patting each other on the back as Royal put a match ball up his shirt and waved to the crowd.

Fans were confused by Romero's antics, with one tweeting: "Romero casually kicking Emerson Royal." Another wrote: "Just a gentle tap from Romero."

A third added: "Romero wellying him." One more also commented: "But why did Romero just kick Emerson like that in the Spurs celebrations."

Royal's goal was his second of the season, having also found the back of the net in the 4-2 defeat away to Manchester City last month. He now has three goals from full-back in 69 appearances for Spurs since joining from Barcelona in 2021.

Sunday's win sees Spurs leapfrog Newcastle, who were beaten by Liverpool on Saturday, and climb into the Champions League places for the first time since Boxing Day.

Conte's side now sit a point ahead of Newcastle ahead of another London derby at home to struggling Chelsea next Sunday.
