Craig Pawson’s reaction to Harry Kane’s late winner vs Man City baffles fans

Fans have spotted fourth official Craig Pawson’s unusual reaction to Harry Kane scoring a shock late winner for Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City in the Premier League.

During Saturday’s encounter at the Etihad, Pawson made a strange reaction after Kane secured Spurs all three points in a 3-2 win, leaving fans to ponder why the official reacted as he did.

As the final goal went in, Pawson turned to look at a dejected Pep Guardiola, and in that moment, fans felt his face depicted someone annoyed with the result.

One wrote: “Can anyone give me a logical explanation for this reaction from Pawson, please! Because that looks like genuine annoyance?! And I hate conspiracy theories but he’s in charge for the League Cup Final!”

Another said: “As a neutral, if a 92nd-minute equaliser being cancelled out by a 95th-minute winner doesn't get you excited, maybe you're not as neutral as you're supposed to be.”

A third wrote: “I've always said refs should do post-match interviews to explain decisions. That Pawson reaction is another example of why they should be explaining themselves. There's probably a simple explanation relating to decisions rather than the goal itself, but instead we're speculating.”

Man City lost against Spurs, in what’s been considered one of the games of the season. Kane’s slick pass split open City’s defence and Son Heung-min squared to Dejan Kulusevski, who opened the scoring.

İlkay Gundogan replied for the home side, but then Kane put Spurs ahead once again. A late penalty buried by Riyad Mahrez appeared to make it be a point apiece but then, in the dying embers, Kane headed home to give Antonio Conte’s side all three points.

After the game, Pep Guardiola spoke about the Citizen’s title challenge. He said: “We didn’t need to lose a game to know how hard it is [to win the league].

“There are many, many games still to play. I said a few weeks ago that we needed a lot of points and that it was going to be so difficult because the teams we are playing are fighting for the Champions League or the Europa League or not to be relegated.”
