Conte sent warning by Redknapp as Tottenham prepare for Liverpool test
Ex-Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes that it would be ‘disappointing’ if his former side does not win a trophy this season under Antonio Conte. The now-TV personality sang the praises of the team and the quality that they have on offer.
Spurs’ last trophy came in 2008 when they lifted the Carling Cup, and Redknapp believes that should be the very minimum that Conte should be targeting given his team. The Italian boss recruited well over the summer and are currently sitting in third place in the Premier League after an impressive start to the campaign.
The north London outfit also booked their spot in the knockout stages of the Champions League with a victory over Marseille last week, though it did look unlikely after another slow start by the team – going 1-0 down before half-time before bouncing back to win 2-1.
Asked whether Spurs are capable of winning a trophy considering that they have been grinding out results and starting games sluggishly, to which Redknapp replied to talkSPORT: “It’s hard to think that but I do think they can.

“I’ll be disappointed if Tottenham didn’t win something this year, whether it’s the League Cup, the FA Cup or whatever. They’ve got a strong squad there and I would expect them to have some silverware this year and Conte.
“I don’t think he’s going to change the way he plays and the way he is, he’s going to keep grinding out results and while they’re winning, who can argue I suppose? Even though he’s not getting you off the edge of your seats to watch them, they’re still producing results.”
Spurs take on Liverpool this weekend in what will be a crucial match that could see them pinch the ‘title contenders’ status from their opposition. Jurgen Klopp’s side have struggled so far this season and are currently sitting in ninth place in the table, with their performances lacking a spark.
Conte will be without several key players for the clash, putting his squad depth to the test in a crucial match. He explained: “I can confirm Richarlison is not available for the game. It is the same for Romero, but Bentancur is much better. Today he was part of the training session. It was the same for Kulusevski, today he had half a training session with us. The problem is Lucas Moura is having some different pain in his tendon. Today he was really bad and he said to me he was really worried about this, but I ask of him to try to be available because we need. Also, Sonny is having now surgery.”
