Comparing Richarlison to Kane is pointless, insists Postecoglou
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou insists it is pointless comparing Richarlison to Harry Kane, with the former star man ‘no longer here and no longer relevant’

Comparing Richarlison to Harry Kane, the man he is tasked with replacing in the point of Tottenham’s attack, is useless, claims boss Ange Postecoglou.
After Kane departed for German champions Bayern Munich in a £100million move a fortnight ago, the onus leading the line for Tottenham has fallen on Richarlison’s shoulders.
Following the opening two games of the season where he has yet to score, questions have been asked if the Brazilian No 9 is a reliable long-term solution to fill Kane’s boots.
But the way his manager sees it, Kane is gone and is ‘no longer relevant’ from Tottenham’s point of view.
‘I don’t know that there’s that much of a burden there to carry. Ultimately, this football club needed to change,’ Postecoglou told reporters on Friday.

‘I think everyone at the club’s got to grips that Harry is gone. He’s gone off to a new challenge and I’m sure he’ll do very well over there. We’ve got our own challenge now.
‘I don’t think there’s any use in comparing yourself to something that’s no longer here and is no longer relevant.
‘It would be different if it was on the back of a successful era.’
Richarlison has found life tough since pitching up at Tottenham in a £60m move back in 2022.
But with Kane now gone the onus is on him to replace the Englishman’s goals – something Postecoglou believes will come given his attitude in training.
Against Manchester United last time out, when Tottenham won 2-0, it was, however, a tough afternoon for the Brazilian.
Richarlison was one of two outfield Tottenham players in the second half not to have a single shot at goal. The other was new centre back signing Micky van de Ven.
He also failed to win any of his five aerial duels and had the second-lowest pass accuracy on the team with 64 per cent, behind only Dejan Kulusevski’s 58 per cent.

But Richarlison has been backed to be much improved today in the early kick-off as Tottenham travel to face Bournemouth – and he may end up on penalties.
Kane was the designated taker at Tottenham and now he has gone there is a battle to land the responsibility.
‘I saw a few of them trying today. I think Sonny is up there. I think Madders and Richy are all sort of in there,’ Postecoglou said of his players vying for the penalty role.
‘[Yves] Bissouma I’ve seen take about 500 and miss about 495. But he’s still out there practising, so I don’t know. It’s somewhere within that order.’
