Wayne Rooney's wife, Coleen Rooney, has forgiven him for his wild antics in the past – but she retains they were unacceptable.

The Manchester United legend's career has been put in focus for an upcoming documentary on Amazon Prime titled 'Rooney', which is set for release in 2022.

It will chronicle Rooney's career from his early days at Everton, to legend-making goals at the Red Devils – and fans will get to see a side to Rooney they have never seen before.

And the documentary will feature candid interviews from a series of individuals, including Rooney's wife, Coleen in their family home.

Speaking in the trailer, the mum of four said: "I knew groups Wayne was hanging around. Together with alcohol… not good.

"I forgive him but it wasn't acceptable."

Rooney and Coleen are childhood sweethearts, and they met when they were both 12 in Croxteth, a suburb of Liverpool.

However, their relationship didn't start to blossom until they were 16, right around when Rooney was starting to break into the Everton first-team.

The pair tied the know in 2008, after six years of dating.

And 13 years later, the pair are still together, but it hasn't been plain sailing for the childhood sweethearts.

It is unclear what Coleen is forgiving her husband for in the trailer.

But Rooney has often hit headlines for his off the field antics over the years.

"Foolish as it now seems I did on occasions visit massage parlours and prostitutes," Rooney admitted in 2004.

"I now regret it deeply and hope people may understand that it was the sort of mistake you make when you are young and stupid.

"It was at a time when I was very young and immature and before I had settled down with Coleen."

Rooney has also been accused of paying for a threesome with two women while Coleen was pregnant with their son Kai.

After giving birth to Kai, the pair went on to have three more sons – Klay in 2013, Kit in 2016, and Cass in 2018.

There were numerous other accusations over the years, but Coleen stuck by Rooney.

And a friend told The Sun: "Coleen has had so much stick over the years for standing by Wayne – most of it from people who have never met either of them."

And after Rooney was caught drink-driving in 2018, Coleen posted on Facebook: "A few people are probably thinking am stupid for staying in my marriage.

"I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it's something I want to try and work on.

"Before the headlines start…. No, I'm not taking Wayne back as he's never left.

"Yes, it has been a s*** time, and yes, time was spent apart and I thought my marriage might have been at an end."

The documentary will launch on Amazon prime in early 2022.

And alongside Coleen, the documentary also features interviews from former teammates David Beckham, Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand.
