City’s Harry Kane saga putting doubts in their heads over Declan Rice transfer
Manchester City are having doubts about pursuing Declan Rice as they look to avoid a saga similar to Harry Kane last summer.
City had made Kane their No.1 target, but Pep Guardiola's side refused to meet Tottenham's demands, and the Englishman stayed put. City have now been linked with Kane's England teammate, and West Ham standout, Rice.
According to the Telegraph, Rice and Kane's situation is very similar, and City won't want to overspend on the midfielder over the summer. West Ham could demand a transfer fee north of £150million, and that sum is believed to be enough to warn off potential suitors.
City are in the market for a midfielder after Brazilian stalwart Fernandinho announced his intention to leave City over the summer.
Fernandinho has been key to City's midfielder over the past decade, but he has seen his role minimalise thanks to Rodri's signing and his age. However, Rice has expressed his desire to play in the Champions League, and he has already rejected an offer from the Hammers.
West Ham could still qualify for the Champions League if they win the Europa League.

City have also been heavily linked to Borussia Dortmund's starlet Erling Haaland.
According to several outlets, Haaland and City have agreed personal terms, and a deal could be struck for around £63million – Haaland's release clause.
