Manchester City supporters’ club chief admits their recent success ‘will be TAINTED’ if they are found guilty of breaching over 100 financial rules… despite promising to support them ‘no matter what’
- Man City were charged with more than 100 alleged financial rule breaches
- The club insists it is innocent, but would face serious sanctions if found guilty
- A key figure from the supporters’ club admitted their success would be ‘tainted’
A key member of Man City’s official supporters’ club has admitted their success over recent years will be ‘tainted’ if they are found guilty of financial rule breaches.
The Premier League champions were charged on Monday with more than 100 alleged breaches across a nine-year period from 2009-2018 and are at risk of points deductions or even expulsion from the division should the accusations be proved.
The charges against the reigning champions relate to financial information regarding revenue, details of manager and player remuneration, UEFA regulations, profitability and sustainability and co-operation with Premier League investigations.
The Premier League said in a statement: ‘In accordance with Premier League Rule W.82.1, the Premier League confirms that it has today referred a number of alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules by Manchester City Football Club to a Commission.’
Despite the serious allegations – which has seen City referred to an independent commission – there is considerable confidence within the City camp that they will be able to defend themselves and the club have vehemently denied any breaches of financial rules.

During the nine-year period referred to, City won three Premier League titles, three League Cups, one FA Cup and two Community Shield titles.
And Kevin Parker, general secretary of the club’s official supporters’ club, admitted all of these achievements would be slightly stained if the club was found guilty.
‘I’ve placed my faith in the football club,’ Parker told The Sports Desk podcast.
‘[The achievements] will be tainted if the club are found guilty. If anything I’m hoping as a City fan it has this mentality to bring everyone together.
‘No matter what might happen in the future, nobody can take away some of the special moments we’ve had.
‘No matter what happens off the field, nobody can take those fantastic moments away from us.’
After the charges were announced, City pleaded their innocence in a statement and said: ‘The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.
‘As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.’
During the alleged period, City won three Premier League titles along with many other honours
Kevin Parker insisted he would be disappointed, but would support the club no matter what
Parker explained how he had placed his faith in the club and would feel let down if they are in fact guilty – but insisted he would support the club no matter what.
He added: ‘The club, having been given the opportunity to declare innocence or not, have said they are innocent.
‘Would I be disappointed? Of course, because part of my belief in what this club is currently doing will have been broken.
‘The day before the verdict and the day after the verdict, I’ll still be a City fan and support them.’
