Manchester City allege that coins were thrown at manager Pep Guardiola during their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
In the 53rd minute, City thought they had taken the lead when Phil Foden poked home from close range, before VAR overturned the decision for a foul by Erling Haaland in the build-up.
The club now claim that in the aftermath, as Liverpool fans wildly celebrated the decision by Anthony Taylor, Guardiola was targeted by projectiles from the crowd.
Regarding the incident, Guardiola said: ‘Next time they will do it better. They didn’t get me. They tried but didn’t get me. They got it on the coach years ago but not this time.’
The Spaniard makes reference to their Premier League encounter in 2018, where bottles were thrown at the City bus as they entered Anfield.
It proved to be a costly moment in the match as Liverpool went and took the lead shortly after through Mohamed Salah, who sealed all three points for the hosts.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was also involved in drama at the game, as he was sent off by Taylor in the 86th minute.
The German was shown red after he argued with officials over their decision not to award a free-kick for Salah late in the game.
The incident nearly caused emotions to boil over as City’s Bernardo Silva and Liverpool’s Salah and Virgil Van Dijk got into a heated discussion shortly after.
Following the feisty encounter, City remain second but drop pace on league leaders Arsenal, while Klopp’s side move into the top half of the Premier League table.
