Christian Pulisic vents Chelsea frustration after completing AC Milan move
Football Digest: Pochettino ruthlessly exiles three players from Chelsea HQ
USMNT star Christian Pulisic has admitted to his frustration at not being given more of a chance at Chelsea but insists that he is ready to put that all behind him as he starts a new chapter in his career with AC Milan. After weeks of speculation, the Serie A outfit completed a £20m deal for the 24-year-old on Thursday, handing him a four-year contract with the option of a 12-month extension.
Pulisic moved to Stamford Bridge from Borussia Dortmund in 2019, with the West London club paying £58m for his services. He helped the Blues to win the Champions League in 2021 but started to find game time increasingly limited and in his final Premier League season only managed to score once.
With more than 17 new players coming through the door at Chelsea in the last 12 months alone, Pulisic was in need of a fresh start, which has been offered to him by American-owned club Milan.
When asked by ESPN if he felt he should have been given more of a chance to prove himself on the pitch for Chelsea, Pulisic said: “Of course, I’d like to think so, of course. You know, there are definitely times where I wish I could have gotten that, you know, more of an opportunity and been that guy but, yeah, for whatever reason that’s not the case and like I said, I’m just so excited for this new challenge and I’m definitely ready and up for it.
“The coach really made me feel like he wanted me here… that he wanted me to be a part of this team and how he saw me fitting in. That’s precisely what I wanted to hear.”
Pulisic scored 26 goals for Chelsea in 145 appearances, but he will be hoping to provide a more consistent return for his new employers at the San Siro.
By signing for Milan, who are owned by American investment outfit RedBird Capital, he will become the third American to represent the Rossoneri after Oguchi Onyewu and Sergiño Dest.
Exceeding the achievements of his two compatriots should not be too much of an issue for the winger. Onyewu only made one Champions League appearance before exiting the club following a training ground brawl with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while Dest made just eight appearances on loan from Barcelona last season.

Pulisic added: “I’m very happy to be here. I’m excited. I’m excited to start with this historic club. It’s legendary and I’m really excited to come here and try to win some titles.”
The USMNT star’s stock remains high in his homeland, having been capped 60 times with a return of 25 goals.
He scored twice against Mexico in this year’s CONCACAF Nations League semi-final before going on to lift the trophy with a 2-0 victory against Canada in the final. Pulisic was then declared the Player of the Tournament.
