Christian Eriksen 'was gone' after cardiac arrest, reveals Denmark team doctor
Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest and ‘was gone’ before he was resuscitated on the pitch, according to Denmark’s team doctor Morten Boesen.
The 29-year-old collapsed on the pitch during the first half of Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland on Saturday.
Eriksen received CPR from medical staff while Denmark’s players formed a protective ring around their teammate as he was given treatment.
The midfielder is now in a stable condition in hospital and has spoken with his Denmark teammates, who resumed their match later on Saturday evening and were beaten 1-0 by Finland.
‘We don’t have an explanation for what happened,’ Boesen said at a press conference on Sunday.
‘I didn’t see it live, I saw it on the screen after it happened.
‘It was a cardiac arrest. He was gone and we did cardiac resuscitation.
‘How close were we? I don’t know. We got him back after one defib. That’s quite fast.
‘The details, I’m not a cardiologist, so I will leave to the experts.’
