Christian Eriksen delays Man Utd decision due to one major concern
Christian Eriksen has delayed his decision over a potential move to Manchester United this summer, according to reports.
United are in the running to sign the 30-year-old, who joined Brentford on a short-term contract last season.
Eriksen, who was sidelined for eight months after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, made an immediate impact at Brentford and played a key role in helping Thomas Frank’s side being able to comfortably avoid relegation in their debut Premier League campaign.
The Denmark international has not been short of offers, with the Daily Mirror claiming that United, Brentford, Leicester City, Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle United have all registered their interest.
But the report claims that Eriksen is delaying his decision as he wants to see how United progress in the early stages of the transfer window.
United have yet to complete a signing but are reportedly on the verge of agreeing a £68 million deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who is one of Erik ten Hag’s priority transfer targets.
Ten Hag is also keen on bringing Eriksen to Old Trafford, as well as Ajax winger Antony, although the Eredivisie champions are holding out for a £70m fee for the Brazilian winger.
United are unable to offer Champions League football to any new signings following their sixth-placed finish in the Premier League last term.
Cristiano Ronaldo has also reportedly raised early concerns about United’s transfer strategy and the 37-year-old’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has met with Chelsea’s co-owner Todd Boehly to discuss a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
Some of United’s players who were not involved in international duty earlier this month returned to Carrington on Monday for their first day of pre-season training under Ten Hag.
Jadon Sancho, David De Gea, Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek were among the first-team players who reported for training, while Alejandro Garnacho, who played for Argentina Under-20s at the Toulon Tournament earlier this month, made a surprise appearance.
