CHRIS SUTTON: Harry Kane showed Pep Guardiola what £150m gets you

CHRIS SUTTON: Harry Kane’s stellar performance against Manchester City showed Pep Guardiola what £150m gets you… the England captain is no ordinary centre forward

  • Harry Kane’s performance showed Pep Guardiola exactly what £150m gets you
  • The Tottenham striker was back to his match-winning best as Spurs beat City
  • There was never any doubt he would be back but challenge now is consistency

The defence-splitting ball in the build-up to Tottenham’s first goal. The run and finish for their second. The march he stole on Kyle Walker to meet Dejan Kulusevski’s cross and head home their third.

That’s what £150million buys you, Pep — two players in one, a nine and a 10.

This was Harry Kane at his match-winning best. He’s not had the greatest season. We all know that, and Kane does, too. But all top strikers go through a sticky patch at some stage in their careers.

There was never any doubt that Kane was going to come back with a vengeance. He’s too good to not find his form and he showed against Manchester City that he is no ordinary centre forward. City didn’t know how to stop him.

When he was dropping into that pocket of space between their defence and midfield, no one in a light blue shirt was with him, and it meant he could thread those through balls which he loves to do. Kane turned it on against City.

The challenge for him now is to rediscover his consistency so that Tottenham can make a push for the top four.

The England captain demonstrated that he is no ordinary centre forward on Saturday night
