Chelsea’s links to Lewandowski grow as Giroud completes Milan medical
The summer transfer window is now in full flow following the conclusion of Euro 2020, with Chelsea leading the charge in activity amongst Premier League clubs.
This window was always set to be a busy one for Thomas Tuchel and his Champions League winners, who will look to cement their place as England’s top side next season.
Chelsea spent close to £300million on transfers and fees across last season and while such a lofty figure seems unlikely this time around, expect Roman Abramovich to back the club financially once more.
A number of players will be exiting Stamford Bridge this summer in order to accommodate new players, with some deals already near completion.
Daily Star Sport has taken a look at the latest Chelsea transfer news below.
Giroud completes AC Milan medical
Olivier Giroud arrived in Italy on Thursday morning where he completed his medical ahead of a move to AC Milan.
The Frenchman has agreed a two-year-deal with the Italian club after they triggered his £850,000 release clause set by Chelsea at the end of the season.
Giroud, 34, will receive around £50,000 a week at the Rossoneri where he will play after nine seasons of Premier League football.
He received a Europa League and Champions League winners’ medal during his three-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge.
The move will in turn free up space in wages for a new striker as Tuchel and Abramovich focus on bringing in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
Guehi confirms move
Do you think Chelsea should have kept talented academy graduate Guehi? Let us know in the comments section.
Marc Guehi is set to join Crystal Palace from Chelsea after hinting that the move is complete on social media.
The highly-rated 21-year old took his medical on Thursday ahead of signing a five-year-deal with the Eagles.
According to The Athletic, Guehi received considerable interest from several clubs as a product of Chelsea’s famous academy, but Palace were prepared to invest more heavily with a fee of around £15million to £20million.
The Ivory Coast-born defender’s sale will give Tuchel more funds to strengthen other areas of the squad this summer.
Interest in Lewandowski
Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that a number of clubs are interested in signing elite striker Robert Lewandowski this summer.
Lewandowski, 32, is reportedly considering his future with only two years left on his contract at the Allianz Arena.
Chelsea have been linked with the Polish superstar and are one of the only teams who could lure him away in terms of their ambition and financial power.
The goal-scorer would provide a cheaper alternative to the £150million rated Haaland, who is top of Chelsea’s wish-list.
