Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has explained why Thomas Tuchel was able to turn around the Blues’ form so quickly following his January arrival, in a subtle dig at Frank Lampard and his staff.
Tuchel replaced Lampard following a disappointing start to the 2020-21 Premier League campaign.
Chelsea were ninth when the German was appointed and a near-impeccable run of form meant that they finished fourth.
The head coach then culminated an incredible first five months in charge by guiding Chelsea to a sensational Champions League final win against Manchester City.
That success has led to the West Londoners being considered one of the favourites to win the Premier League this season. The club has not won England’s top-flight since 2017.

Shot-stopper Mendy has revealed how Tuchel so easily rekindled the club’s best form after a disappointing period under Lampard.
The 29-year-old’s comments could be a swipe at his former boss, who signed him from Rennes in the summer of 2020.
Mendy believes that Tuchel brought a strong energy to the club and his staff fitted in seamlessly.
“When the manager arrived he brought his philosophy and his energy and we performed straightaway,” Mendy told the club’s official website.

“I think it was a good match between the manager and his staff and the team because the way he wants to play, we have the players for it, so it was a good match.
“For me, he brings a lot of energy. He is a very energetic manager and I think the team needs that so it’s good.”
Mendy joined Chelsea last summer to provide competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga. He is now considered the No 1 goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge.
A sensational double save kept Aston Villa at bay last weekend. It helped to set up a 3-0 win, sealed largely thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s brace.
Chelsea will likely compete with Man City, Liverpool and Manchester United for the Premier League title.
Mendy believes that a club having two good goalkeepers can provide a strong platform for success. He insists that competition with Arrizabalaga and Marcus Bettinelli, was a a free transfer signing from Fulham, is strong.
The Senegal international continued: “You can see it at Manchester City and at Liverpool – two good goalkeepers who are ready to play.
“So you have to be the best for yourself but for the team also because when the coach puts you on the pitch, you have to show why he called you.
“Every time you have to show it, and you have to push each other at training. It’s competition and Kepa, me or Marcus [Bettinelli], we want to be the best for the team.”
