Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is reportedly using Arsenal as inspiration for not sacking Graham Potter. Mikel Arteta has fought back from huge adversity and now sees his Gunners side sit top of the Premier League table.

Potter is under big pressure at Stamford Bridge, less than six months after replacing Thomas Tuchel. Chelsea have won just two of their last 14 matches in all competitions.

Saturday saw the Blues fall to a 1-0 defeat at home to relegation-threatened Southampton. Many supporters have turned on Potter and are calling for him to lose his job.

But it appears Boehly is not prepared to pull the trigger just yet. The Mail claims Potter will be given more time to turn things around in west London.

And the report says Arteta’s improvement at Arsenal has had an impact on that decision. The Chelsea hierarchy have noted how Arteta has transformed matters at the Emirates this season.

The Spaniard faced many calls for him to lose his job after failing to qualify for the Champions League last term. But the Arsenal board stuck by their former skipper and have reaped the rewards.

The Gunners currently sit top of the Premier League table, two points clear of Manchester City with a game in hand. Boehly hopes Potter can oversee a similar turnaround in fortunes at Chelsea.

Speaking after the loss to Southampton, Potter insisted he would not move away from his philosophy. He said: “No, I do not [lose belief or faith in his methods].

“I know it is football and sometimes this happens. I know my qualities. I know what I have done in my career, and I understand when results do not go your way you are open to criticism, and that is fair.

“This is the world we’re in. There is a transition and factors [to our results], but at the same time it is a motion, and the team is losing so you can understand. I am not stupid or naive, my job is to keep going and help the team through this tough period.

“You can only be yourself and try your best. I get it, when you’re losing there is always something that you can do or change.

“I have always been this way [calm on the touchline] and it has got me to this point. At the same time, I can understand if people want something different.”
