Chelsea will not back down on their proposed £26million fee for defender Fikayo Tomori, with AC Milan stepping up attempts to secure a permanent deal.

Tomori has impressed since sealing a January loan move to the San Siro, after making 11 appearances for the Rossoneri.

A £26m option to buy was agreed with the loan deal, and Milan must now pay the fee in full to Chelsea in order to take the player on full time this summer, as report Goal.

Tomori sealed a loan move in January and has taken effortlessly to top flight Italian football

Tomori made just four appearances under former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, and fell down the pecking order following the arrival of Brazilian icon Thiago Silva.

Since, Lampard has been replaced at the helm by Thomas Tuchel but Tomori had already started making a name for himself in the Italian top flight.

He has been a consistent performer for a Milan side who sit just six points off the top of the league this season, in what is the tightest run Serie A campaign for many years.

Recently Milan sporting director and club legend Paolo Maldini confirmed the San Siro side will attempt to make Tomori’s loan transfer a permanent move.

After initially impressing at Chelsea, Tomori found himself falling down the pecking order fast

Speaking before Milan’s recent clash with Roma, Maldini told Sky Sports Italia: ‘Tomori is a good talent and we have a buy-option clause.

‘The price is very high. AC Milan will decide at the end of this season and we will discuss it with Chelsea’s board.’

Tomori has featured in all but two of Milan’s fixtures since moving to the San Siro on January 22 and featured in every minute of the club’s Europa League last-32 tie victory over Red Star Belgrade.

Tomori confirmed shortly after his move that he was frustrated with his situation under Lampard at Chelsea and pledged his allegiance to Milan until at least the end of his loan move.

The English youngster has featured 11 times for Milan and proven he can cut it on the big stage

The defender told The Telegraph: ‘2020, football-wise, was very, very difficult, especially after the way 2019 had gone for me playing games.

‘From being at 100 to literally going down to zero and then not knowing the reason why it had gone to zero, it was very challenging.

‘I’m not saying I’m never going to be at Chelsea again. But at this time I’m not a Chelsea player, I’m at Milan and I have to be focused on here.’
