Chelsea will be relieved they refused to include clause in Gallagher’s contract
Chelsea will be relieved that they refused to include an option to buy clause in the contract that saw Conor Gallagher move on loan to Crystal Palace in the summer.
The 21-year-old has impressed for Patrick Vieira's side so far this season and made his senior England debut against San Marino on Monday night.
A number of other Premier League clubs had approached Chelsea about taking Gallagher on loan this season following his spell at West Bromwich Albion last season.
These clubs included both Newcastle United and Leeds United but Gallagher ultimately moved to Selhurst Park on a temporary basis.
The Daily Mail report that Chelsea refused to add an option to buy clause in any potential loan deal for Gallagher in the summer.
Both Newcastle and Leeds reportedly wanted such a clause inserted in the deal to allow them to buy the player permanently next summer if he impressed.
However, Chelsea refused and they are believed to have plans for Gallagher to become a part of Thomas Tuchel's first team plans in the 2022/23 season.
Having made his England debut off the bench earlier this week, Gallagher's transfer value is also now expected to have increased considerably if Chelsea were to decide to sell him.
Will Conor Gallagher break into the Chelsea first team next season? Let us know in the comments section below.
After the match, Gallagher was asked for his thoughts on breaking into the Chelsea first team in the future.
“I am just thinking about this season with Crystal Palace, doing as best I can for them," he responded.
“That’s most important for me now. If I continue to do well with them and carry on scoring a few goals there’s a chance to be in this England team.”
Gallagher was a member of the Three Lions side that won the under-17 World Cup in India in 2017 alongside the likes of Phil Foden and Emile Smith Rowe.
So far this season, Gallagher has scored four goals and provided two assists in 10 league appearances for Palace, who currently sit in mid-table.
This is his fourth stint away from Stamford Bridge after previous loan spells at Charlton Athletic, Swansea City and West Brom.
