Chelsea want a swift appointment in the wake of their decision to sack Thomas Tuchel, according to reports. Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane are three of the contenders to take over in the capital. However, as it stands, it’s unlikely they’ll have a new manager in place for Saturday’s Premier League showdown with Fulham.
Chelsea sacked Tuchel on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after they were beaten by Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
And now, according to ESPN, the Blues are hoping to make a ‘swift’ appointment as they hunt down a successor for the German.
Potter is currently the favourite to take over at Chelsea, having worked wonders at Brighton ever since taking over from Chris Hughton in 2019.
Yet he’s not the only name on their radar, at a time where the Blues would have to fork out £16million to land the Brighton boss.
Pochettino is another manager set to be considered, with the Argentine currently out of work after leaving Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the summer.

He’s previously managed Southampton and Tottenham in the Premier League, steering the latter to the Champions League final in 2019.
Pochettino was, at one point, seen as being in pole position to secure the Manchester United job.
However, with the Red Devils since opting to hire Erik ten Hag instead, it seems like he could be primed to take over at Stamford Bridge.
A third candidate is Zidane, who hasn’t taken a managerial job since leaving Real Madrid 12 months ago.
Yet with the Frenchman previously saying he had doubts about taking a role in England, it seems far-fetched that he’d take over.
In Chelsea’s statement, they thanked Tuchel for everything he’d achieved and hailed the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup trophies he won during his reign.
“Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Thomas Tuchel,” their statement read.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.
“Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.
“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.
“Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.
“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”
Meanwhile, talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan thinks Chelsea must already have a replacement for Tuchel lined up.
“They’ve obviously got someone lined-up. It doesn’t feel like a football decision,” Jordan said.
“They haven’t been great, but Tuchel has enough currency in footballing terms to be given an opportunity to correct this slight malaise.
“Something else is afoot here. It isn’t just a ruthless owner cutting through the football landscape.”
Tuchel has become the first managerial casualty of the Todd Boehly era. And, given the Blues’ history of sacking bosses, he’s unlikely to be the last.
Tuchel has also become the second Chelsea boss to lose his job despite guiding them to Champions League glory.
Roberto Di Matteo steered them to the prize back in 2012, having taken over from Andre Villas-Boas.
Yet he was axed that same year, with Roman Abramovich then hiring Rafa Benitez as a controversial interim replacement.
