It’s do or die at Stamford Bridge this afternoon, as Chelsea and Liverpool lock horns knowing a slip-up could potentially be fatal in the title race.

Both sides find themselves falling behind Pep Guardiola’s rampant Manchester City, and defeat here in the capital today seems like an unthinkable outcome.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has sensationally taken the bold call of dropping record signing Romelu Lukaku following his bombshell interview earlier in the week, in which he outlined he was not happy at his new club and dreams of a return to Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will be without their manager Jurgen Klopp today, after the German boss returned a positive Covid-19 test and has been forced to isolate at home.

Of course, this has been the story which has overshadowed the entire week for Chelsea – Romelu Lukaku is not happy.

The Belgian gave an interview with Sky Italy in which he outlined that he was not a fan of Thomas Tuchel’s system, and cannot wait to one day play for Inter Milan again.

Not exactly the sort of stuff you want to hear from your £98million record signing. He’s been dropped as a result, and Graeme Souness feels the Belgian has behaved disgracefully…

That is according to Jamie Carragher, who feels the mountain will simply be too big to climb.

Welcome to west London, and welcome to what could be the battle of the season.

Chelsea – hit with injuries and covid absentees – take on a Liverpool side without a manager, as Jurgen Klopp remains at home following his positive test.

Both sides are battered and bruised and, most importantly, absolutely cannot afford to lose today.

Manchester City are speeding off at a canter and, if these two sides are not careful, they will let Pep Guardiola’s men run away with it.
