Chelsea ‘to receive Moises Caicedo swap deal offer’ that will test Todd Boehly

Chelsea confirm Mauricio Pochettino as new boss

Chelsea will reportedly receive a Moises Caicedo swap offer from Brighton as the Seagulls are said to be willing to include the highly-rated midfielder as part of a deal to land Levi Colwill. Colwill spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan from the Blues at the Amex Stadium and became a regular starter under Roberto de Zerbi.

Caicedo meanwhile moved to England from Ecuadorian club Independiente in February 2021 for just £4million. And following a successful loan spell with Beerschot in Belgium, he broke into the Seagulls team under Graham Potter.

The 21-year-old has gone on to make 53 appearances for Brighton and helped the team finish sixth in the Premier League during the most recent season. He is now being targeted by the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool – but Chelsea may well have jumped to the front of the queue in the race for the player’s signature.

According to 90min, Brighton are lining up a bid in excess of £40m to sign Colwill, who started eight of the Seagulls’ final 14 Premier League games of the season. Colwill has told the Blues he wants to depart Stamford Bridge if he isn’t part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans next season. But Chelsea consider the 20-year-old to be unsellable and want to see how he gets on during pre-season.

If Brighton can’t convince Chelsea to part ways with Colwill, they are willing to throw in Caicedo as part of the package to tempt them into business. That comes after De Zerbi went on record to confirm the Ecuador international would be allowed to move on this summer.

“I think it can be the last game for Alexis [Mac Allister] and Moises Caicedo,” the Italian said following his side’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on the final day of the season. “I am really sorry because they are two great people and two great players but the policy of Brighton is like this.

“It is right that they can leave, they can play at a higher level. I’m really sorry if we lose him, if we lose Moises Caicedo, but players like this deserve to play at another level, another level in terms of competition, in terms of importance of the club, prestige of the club.”

Brighton’s stance could really test Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, who is under pressure to offload a number of stars to ensure his club don’t fall foul of financial fair play rules. While Chelsea want to keep Colwill, the guarantee of bringing in Caicedo to replace the outgoing N’Golo Kante may be too good to turn down.

American Boehly bought the Blues from Roman Abramovich just over a year ago and has since shelled out prodigious sums of cash to bring in a whole host of players from across the globe. And he is set to spend even more this summer on more new players though will have to offset his expenditure with player sales.
