Chelsea target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ‘waves goodbye’ to Barcelona

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was seen waving goodbye to Barcelona fans as his move to Chelsea draws closer.

The Gabonese striker featured on Wednesday night in the side's friendly match against Manchester City – which finished 3-3.

In the first half of the match, Aubameyang scored a goal but did not celebrate as much as his teammates who swarmed him.

In the second period, he then provided what fans believed was a huge indication that he was leaving – waving to the crowd at the Nou Camp after he was substituted.

"Aubameyang saying goodbye to Barca fans," one suggested in a tweet. “Goodbye from Aubameyang? He’s off in the 57th minute after scoring Barcelona’s equaliser,” said another.

It is thought that Chelsea and Barcelona are set to meet on Wednesday as the two clubs look to come to an agreement on a transfer fee for the veteran attacker, in what's been a long, drawn-out saga.

Aubameyang has become a key target for Thomas Tuchel's side, who wish to bolster their attacking options. The links have been growing by the day but there has been something of a stumbling block in regard to agreeing on a fee for the 33-year-old.

It is believed that Barcelona want around £25.3million for the striker but Chelsea value him lower.

Despite only being with the Catalan club a short while, Aubameyang has been used sparingly owing to the purchase of Robert Lewandowski.

Aubameyang moved to Spain in January from Arsenal. He scored 68 Premier League goals for the north London side and even won the Golden Boot in 2018-19, joint with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Aubameyang had played under Tuchel before when they were both at Dortmund, with the player leading the BVB line for the German coach between 2015 and 2017.
