Chelsea Supporters Trust "appalled" by Super League plans amid fan backlash

Chelsea's Supporters Trust have released a statement opposing plans of a European Super League that includes the Blues.

They are one of six Premier League clubs who are part of the potential breakaway competition with Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham the other five.

Three clubs from Spain – Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid – and three from Italy – Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan – are also involved.

The move has been widely condemned with the Premier League, FA and UEFA all heavily criticising the plans.

Chelsea's Supporters Trust has said it is "appalled" at their involvement.

The full statement reads: "The Chelsea Supporters Trust (CST) continues to wholeheartedly oppose the creation of a breakaway competition to the Champions League. A 'Super League' would destroy open competition simply for financial gain.

"The CST is appalled that Chelsea FC (CFC) are among the rumoured teams to have signed up for this alternative competition and hope that these reports are untrue. This proposal would risk CFC from being banned from other competitions and could jeopardise the future of our club.

"The proposal demonstrates the greed within football and as supporters, we are tired of the of the beautiful game being abused.

"Enough is Enough."

Tottenham's Supporters Trust has also released a statement saying: "The board of Tottenham's Supporters Trust is deeply concerned by rapidly escalating reports linking Tottenham with a breakaway European Super League.

"A concept driven by self interest as the expense of the values of the game we hold so dear."

They went on to say alongside fan groups at Liverpool, United, City, Arsenal and Chelsea "we wholeheartedly oppose the the move to create a closed shop for Europe's elite. "

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is set to hold the chairman's role within the league's new structure with Liverpool's John W. Henry, Man United's Joel Glazer, Arsenal's Stan Kroenke and Juventus ' Andrea Agnelli as vice-chairmen.
