Chelsea star Kai Havertz reveals he is a 'total SUGAR FREAK'
Chelsea star Kai Havertz reveals he’s a ‘total sugar freak’ and scoffs down gummy bears and skittles at half time and drinks Coke after matches – on orders of a club nutritionist – because it ‘gives him energy’

- A new nutritionist at Chelsea has urged the forward to eat sugary food for energy
- It seems to be working for Havertz – who has scored three in his last four games
Chelsea forward and ‘sugar freak’ Kai Havertz has admitted to struggling with a healthy diet, insisting that he plays better after eating lots of sweets and fizzy drinks on matchdays.
Havertz has revealed how he tried and failed to change his dietary habits at Chelsea before being told that sweets and sugary food were actually benefitting him on the pitch.
Despite initially trialling a new dietary regime in an effort to eat more healthily, the German urged that it had the ‘complete opposite effect’ on him – and he was subsequently recommended an unusual diet by Chelsea’s new nutritionist.
His eating plan involves guzzling down a variety of sweets at half-time and consuming fizzy drinks such as Coca-Cola and Fanta after matches.
Despite Chelsea’s woeful form this campaign, which culminated in the Blues dropping to 11th in the table following their 2-0 home defeat by Aston Villa on Saturday, Havertz has been in fine goal-scoring form, scoring three times in his las four games for the club.

Speaking to German outlet Ehrenpflaume, Havertz said: ‘We had a cook in London at the beginning, who came every day and cooked for us.
‘And I have to say, I did not feel good at all. This had the complete opposite effect on me. He said to me (that this is) because I’m a total sugar freak.
‘You probably noticed (on Saturday), I drink coke after the game and I need sweets and stuff, because that gives me strength and energy.’
He continued: ‘Then we got a nutritionist at Chelsea and he completely went to the other policy and said “Kai, you need the Fanta, you need the coke, drink one a day”.
‘At half-time I get gummy bears, Skittles or something. That move has pushed my body and I am full of energy again.’
Chelsea will need Havertz firing on all cylinders at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, as the Blues host fellow strugglers Liverpool in their first match since the departure of sacked boss Graham Potter.
Graham Potter was sacked following Chelsea’s disappointing 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa
Bruno Saltor said he was ‘frustrated’ that Potter wasn’t given more time at Chelsea on Monday
A win would see the west London club climb two places in the table ahead of Fulham and Aston Villa and move within a point of the Reds in eighth.
Bruno Saltor, who worked under Potter at both Brighton and Chelsea, has taken the reins as interim manager while Todd Boehly searches of a long-term replacement.
Frustrated that his former boss was not offered a longer stint at the club, Saltor urged in Monday’s press conference: ‘Obviously there is a frustration because processes take time.
‘We all know the situation here. But it is what it is and we need to focus on Liverpool. Thinking about the past is not going to help me now. I don’t know exactly what the promises to Graham were.’
