Chelsea midfielder Jorginho abandoned a recent interview after being asked about his contract situation amid uncertainty over his future at the club. The 31-year-old’s contract expires in July, and he has been at the centre of intense links to a Serie A return.
Jorginho has been a crucial player for Chelsea since joining his former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge in a £57million deal in 2018. But he hasn’t extended his deal since his arrival and is now just over six months away from becoming a free agent.
Graham Potter replacing Thomas Tuchel as head coach, bringing new ideas to west London, has raised further questions over Jorginho’s future. And he remained coy on his transfer plans in a recent interview, fleeing after being asked about his status with the Blues.
In an interview with Sky Sport, Jorginho revealed he was in negotiations with Chelsea about his contract. “It’s normal to speak about it,” the Italy international said. He then laughed before leaving the interview, adding on his way out: “You said that was the last question… so, ciao ciao!”

In October, Jorginho confirmed he was happy at Chelsea. He told The 5th Stand: “I’m very happy at the moment. We’re all very focused on what we need to do. I’m enjoying life here. I’m enjoying working with everyone, and I think everybody says the same thing. It’s enjoyable to be at Chelsea.”
And his agent Joao Santos has also insisted Jorginho is prioritising Chelsea as his contract expiry looms larger. “We are due in June. We prioritise Chelsea, and we are moving towards it. Another priority for Jorginho is to do well with the national team,” he explained to Tuttomercatoweb.
However, there has been little movement toward committing his future to Stamford Bridge in recent months, and he can enter talks with overseas clubs over a free transfer in January.
With N’Golo Kante also out of contract at the end of the season, Potter may view it as an opportunity to refresh his midfield.
After Italy missed out on the 2022 World Cup, Jorginho will be equally focused on helping the European champions qualify for the defence of their crown at Euro 2024 over the next year.
But his Chelsea future should become clearer in the coming weeks as the January transfer window opens and suitors begin to circle.
