Chelsea star confirms he wants to leave ahead of Mauricio Pochettino arrival
Christian Pulisic has suggested he wants to leave Chelsea, insisting he needs to ‘play and be trusted’ at club level.
Much was expected of Pulisic when he completed a £58m move to Stamford Bridge in 2019 off the back of four productive years at Borussia Dortmund.
The USA star scored 11 goals in his first season at Chelsea but his contributions have gradually fallen away since then, with Pulisic starting just eight league games last term.
Despite his battles with injury and form, Pulisic has many admirers in Italy and is attracting interest from Napoli, Juventus and AC Milan this summer.
The 24-year-old says he ‘needs to figure out what’s best for my career’ but has suggested he has already decided to leave in search of more game-time.
‘It’s absolutely a time where I need to figure out what’s going to be best for my future and be somewhere where I can go and play and be trusted and feel good in what I’m doing,’ Pulisic told ESPN.
‘I want to find that joy at club level again, for sure.’
Like so many in the Chelsea squad, Pulisic endured a frustrating 2022-23 campaign as the Blues slipped to a bottom-half finish in the Premier League.
The American is believed to be one of a number of players incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to sell in his first transfer window in charge.
Former Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham and Southampton manager Pochettino officially takes over at Stamford Bridge on July 1 but Chelsea have already started trimming his bloated squad.
N’Golo Kante has completed a move to Saudi Arabia and looks set to be joined by Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly.
Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz are closing in on moves to Manchester City and Arsenal respectively, while Chelsea are looking to raise £70m for contract rebel and Manchester United target Mason Mount.
