Chelsea squad for 2021/22 as Thomas Tuchel considers Silva and Giroud futures
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will have plenty of big decisions to make during the summer transfer window as he eyes up a Premier League title charge in 2021/22.
The former PSG and Borussia Dortmund boss has overseen three draws and seven wins from 10 matches in all competitions – the latest of which a fine away showing at champions Liverpool.
Although Marina Granovskaia will once again have the final say on incoming and outgoing deals, Tuchel and his staff with have some ideas of their own going forward.
Daily Star Sport have taken a look at some of the most likely potential exits as the window approaches, with Thiago Silva and Olivier Giroud both out of contract.
Kepa Arrizabalaga
Despite a rare start against Newcastle in February, Tuchel confirmed that Kepa remained his second choice stopper as Edouard Mendy continues in goal.
Although his contract runs until the summer of 2025, the Spaniard could eye a loan deal back to La Liga which might in turn boost his value and confidence in a bonus to Chelsea.
Marcos Alonso
Tuchel has brought Alonso back into the fold since replacing Frank Lampard, citing his aerial ability from both attacking and defensive set-pieces.
Although Ben Chilwell will be expecting to start the majority of matches next season, Alonso could hang around with the promise of squad rotation.
Thiago Silva
Despite impressing under Lampard, Silva is out of contract in the summer with no guarantees that the club will use their option to extend it by another year.
With the 36-year-old currently out injured, he will have plenty of time to consider his plans as he continues in the final few years of his career.
Jorginho
Jorginho has been a regular starter under Tuchel having played a reduced role this season under Lampard, and remains under contract until 2023.
The 29-year-old has regularly been linked with a move back to Italy since coming to the Premier League, and a big enough bid could tempt the Blues to sell up.
Tammy Abraham
Despite his consistent record in front of goal since returning on loan from Aston Villa, the England forward has not been a guaranteed starter under Tuchel and has been left out of the squad of late.
As he approaches his 24th birthday, Abraham could force a move away from Chelsea in order to further his career with his European Championship spot under threat this summer.
Olivier Giroud
Olivier Giroud could take his future into his own hands by walking away from Stamford Bridge when his contract expires at the end of the current season.
The veteran has impressed this season and will have plenty of options should he fail to agree new terms, scoring six times across five Champions League appearances so far this season.
