Chelsea ‘raise’ Haaland bid to £135m even though he’ll cost half that in 2022

Chelsea are looking to raise £135m to sign Erling Haaland this summer despite his release clause next year.

The Borussia Dortmund star is one of the top targets at Stamford Bridge after a brilliant season.

The striker, who turns 21 today, scored an astonishing 41 times in 41 matches – including 10 in the Champions League.

However, signing the Norway international has proved incredibly difficult with Dortmund insisting he is not for sale – while the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City are also interested in the youngsters.

There is interest in other forwards including Robert Lewandowski, Romelu Lukaku and Sasa Kalajdzic.

But it is Haaland who Tuchel really craves and Roman Abramovich has been looking to raise funds to bring him in.

According to ESPN, Chelsea have raised £135m to tempt Dortmund into selling the former RB Salzburg ace.

Former Norway striker Jan Aage Fjortoft is close to Haaland's family and said: “Chelsea have him as their main target.

“They would like to test Dortmund with a fantasy offer, and a fantasy offer will be around €150m (£135m) – double what they can get for him next summer.”

Haaland is believed to have a £78m release clause in his contract that comes into effect in the 2022 summer transfer window.

That would mean Chelsea could sign him for cheaper next year but risk missing out as other clubs become interested.

While Haaland might be tempted to wait to see what bids come to the table and a cheaper transfer deal could mean more money can be used for his salary demands.

Dortmund have always maintained that there is no way the Leeds-born star leaves this summer.

It comes after already losing a key player in Jadon Sancho, who is set to join Manchester United soon.

But selling him this year could prove beneficial as to avoid missing out on millions in the near future.
