Chelsea players want Graham Potter sacked, says Jamie O'Hara

Chelsea players are ‘not having’ Graham Potter as their head coach and the club should sack him, according to former Tottenham man Jamie O’Hara.

Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis

Potter arrived at Stamford Bridge in September, replacing Thomas Tuchel, and is under immense pressure amid a terrible run of form in the Premier League.

The Blues, who have spent £600m since the summer, lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa on Saturday and have won just three of their 13 top-flight games in 2023.

Chelsea are currently 11th in the Premier League table and O’Hara feels former Brighton boss Potter is not capable of managing ‘big personalities’ in the squad.

‘I think the only way he stays in as manager next season is if he wins the Champions League,’ O’Hara told Sky Sports. ‘You’ve got to beat Real Madrid.

‘It’s unacceptable where they are. I mean, they’re on page two in the Premier League. It’s embarrassing. It’s Chelsea Football Club.

‘Anyone else would have got the sack. Manchester United, Tottenham, Manchester City, Arsenal even… Mikel Arteta would have been gone.

🗣️ “They’re on page two in the Premier League, it’s EMBARRASSING!” 😡

‘Chelsea are 11th. For me, it’s unacceptable. The amount of money they’ve spent, [co-owner] Todd Boehly has come in.

‘I know you’ve invested in Graham Potter. You had to get him away from Brighton, but he’s miles off it. The players are not responding to his tactics.

‘The teams he picks from the start are strange. He’s constantly changing it. Then the subs he makes in the second half are all over the place.

🗣️ “I think in both boxes we were second best but there’s a lot of good things in the game. Look at the stats of the game, it’s a positive performance but in terms of the scoreline it’s not.”

‘I mean, the defending in this game [against Aston Villa] was absolutely shocking.

‘I don’t think these players are having Graham Potter. What I’m seeing from this side and the players that are there, I think he’s struggling with big characters.

‘He’s not used to having big characters at Brighton, Graham Potter. I think he’s got to go. I’d get rid of him.

‘I was speaking to Chelsea fans yesterday and they want him out. He’s under serious pressure.

‘The only reason he’s still in a job is because they’re in the Champions League. If it wasn’t for that he would be gone.’
