Chelsea may be scouting Copa America after ‘enquiring’ over Paraguay captain
Chelsea have reportedly launched an enquiry over the availability of Palmeiras captain Gustavo Gomez.
Thomas Tuchel is expected to strengthen his Blues squad this summer in an attempt to build on last season's Champions League triumph.
Doubts over Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham's expected departure mean Tuchel has set his sights on a new striker, with Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland said to be of interest.
But it appears the Chelsea boss is also keen to add a new defender to his ranks in the summer transfer window, as reports in Argentina claim an enquiry has been made about Gomez.
According to La Nacion, the European champions have sounded out Palmeiras over a potential deal for the Paraguay captain, who is gearing up for their first Copa America outing against Bolivia on June 15.
Blues officials and Tuchel therefore may have one eye on this summer's tournament, which is being held out in Brazil.

Palmeiras are understood to have told them they will need to fork out 'millions' to prise Gomez away from Allianz Parque.
Transfermarkt estimate the 28-year-old, who still has three years to run on his current contract, is worth around £5million.
Gomez has spent the last three years at Palmeiras after initially joining on loan from AC Milan.
Following two years on loan with the Brazilian club, he made the move permanent in 2019 and has since racked up a total of 118 appearances, scoring 15 goals.
Tuchel is likely targeting a new central defender ahead of Fikayo Tomori's expected departure to AC Milan, who have activated the £25million option-to-buy clause in his loan contract.
