Chelsea have contacted Robert Lewandowski over a potential move to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to reports in Germany.

The Blues are on the hunt for a new striker amid their struggles in front of goal this season, with deep-lying midfielder Jorginho their top scorer in the Premier League with seven goals.

Timo Werner has been a major disappointment since completing a £54million switch from RB Leipzig last summer, only netting six goals in 34 league appearances.

As a result, Thomas Tuchel is believed to have set his sights on adding a new centre-forward to his ranks in the next transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent months, while former player Romelu Lukaku is said to be a target following an impressive season with Inter Milan.

However, Sky Germany are reporting that the west London club have also made contact with Lewandowski about joining them this summer.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed another terrific season for Bayern Munich, registering 47 goals in 39 appearances.

But he is understood to be considering his future at Bayern, who have him under contract until the summer of 2023.

That could tempt Chelsea to launch an official offer for Lewandowski when the transfer window opens in July.

They could face competition from Barcelona and Paris St-Germain, nevertheless, who are both said to be eyeing up a move for the Bayern frontman too.

  • Despite reportedly targeting a new striker, Tuchel is still backing Werner to transform his fortunes in SW6 next season.

"You will not find one manager who will not add a 20-goal striker to his squad. I cannot have enough of them, if you can guarantee that," he said.

"But this is what Chelsea bought, they bought Timo Werner and he is a 20/30-goal striker a year. Now he is struggling a little bit, for the first time in his career.

"I have known him since he was 17. He scored every year in youth football. When he was 16 he played under-18, when he was 17 he played under-19 and he never stopped scoring.

"In any transfer, there are risks of adaptations, change of country, change of mentality. It needs time. It's not a puzzle where you identify one piece and you go out and find the exact piece, it's more than that and that's why there is no rush and no panic.'
