AC Milan director Frederic Massara has revealed the club are yet to decide whether they will activate Fikayo Tomori’s release cause but the Italian giants are adamant the figure is too steep. The Blues agreed to let their centre-back leave on loan in January and included a £26million option to buy in the deal.
It hasn’t taken long for Tomori to make an impact at the San Siro, having slotted straight into the starting XI.
He was excellent on Sunday as AC Milan secured a vital 2-1 win on the road at Roma.
His stock has already risen dramatically in a matter of weeks, with Chelsea left to wonder whether they’d made a mistake.
Tomori was deemed surplus to requirements under Frank Lampard – who also managed him at Derby – allowing Milan to plug a gap at the heart of defence.

While Tomori has been exceptional, Massara has conceded that the club are yet to decide whether they will pursue a permanent deal in the future.
“We’ll see if we pay Fikayo Tomori’s buy option,” he told DAZN. “We are very happy about his start here, the price is very high. We will decide in the coming months”.
The comments suggest Milan may have their hands tied this summer when they’re expected to sit down once again with Chelsea.
Should he continue to impress, there is a chance Thomas Tuchel could hand him a second chance in west London.

Milan legend Paolo Maldini, who is now part of his former club’s hierarchy, recently revealed that Tomori had been on their radar for some time.
It’s also not the first time Massara has spoken out on Tomori in recent weeks, he also admitted that including an option to buy was imperative during negotiations.
“We always try to have an option to buy,” he told SempreMilan.
“Sometimes it is not possible and in order to have the player you give up. We had to fight enough for Tomori, we are convinced that he can help us, he has different characteristics from the defenders in the squad.
“He has qualities like speed and aggression that ours have less markedly, but we are happy with Kjaer, Romagnoli, Gabbia, Kalulu and Musacchio. We consider ourselves complete and we are confident. Tonight we expect a very complicated match.”
