Chelsea have reportedly held talks with Robert Lewandowski’s agent over a possible summer move as Thomas Tuchel steps up his search for a new striker this summer.
The Champions League winners are desperately hoping to freshen up their front line as they prepare to mount an assault on the Premier League title with Timo Werner enduring a disappointing first season in English football.
Tuchel has made it clear that Tammy Abraham has no future in west London, with the 23-year-old attracting interest from Arsenal, while Olivier Giroud has already left for AC Milan.

The Blues have been heavily linked with Erling Haaland but Borussia Dortmund are adamant they won’t sell this summer, having already lost England star Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.
Chelsea reportedly had an opening player-plus-cash bid for Haaland rejected last week and Dortmund’s stance has forced the Premier League sided to look elsewhere.
A return to Stamford Bridge for Romelu Lukaku is another possibility, although it is thought it would cost in excess of £100million to sign the Belgian from Inter Milan.
Harry Kane has also been linked but the rivalry between Chelsea and Tottenham means it’s unlikely the England captain will make the move across London, despite making it clear he wants a new challenge this summer.
But the latest name on Chelsea’s radar is Bayern Munich talisman Lewandowski amid uncertainty over his future with the Bundesliga giants.
According to German outlet Sport Bild, Chelsea chiefs have already held initial talks with the Polish star’s agent, Pini Zahavi.
Lewandowski, 32, still has two years remaining on his current Bayern deal and the German giants are desperate to tie him down to longer terms.
The Sun reported earlier this month that Chelsea are set to make a £50m offer for the Polish star and he is keen on moving to the Premier League.
The 32-year-old has been in sublime form and still has two years on his current Bayern contract
Lewandowski has been in outrageous form in recent seasons and broke German icon Gerd Muller’s record for Bundesliga goals in a single season with 41 last campaign.
Bayern could be tempted to cash in on Lewandowski this summer, rather than risk losing him for a lesser fee next summer, or worse on a free in 2023 if he fails to sign new terms.
It comes after reports claimed Chelsea are prepared to let Abraham join Arsenal on loan this season if a £40m obligation-to-buy clause is included in the deal.
Tottenham and West Ham have been exploring options to sign him permanently but his £40m valuation has proven to be a sticking point, with the latter informing Chelsea they wouldn’t be willing to pay in excess of £30m.
Arsenal would likely pay a large chunk – if not all – of his wages to sign him on loan, which would see Chelsea’s wage bill reduced by around £80,000, freeing up resources to help finance transfer plans of their own.

Another option for Tuchel is Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic. The Athletic claimed the Austrian is one of many back-up options the Blues can turn to should their pursuit of Haaland come to nothing.
But it is thought Stuttgart are in no rush to sell the forward who netted 17 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions for the German side last season.
Meanwhile, Danny Ings – who has turned down a new four-year deal at Southampton to try and force through a move to a Big Six club – is also under consideration as a potential Chelsea striker target.
Reports in Italy also claim Chelsea have enquired about Sassuolo and Italy forward Domenico Berardi.
The 26-year-old impressed for his country at Euro 2020, claiming two assists in the group stages on the Azzurri’s way to winning the tournament after beating England in the final on penalties.
