Chelsea will be prepared to hand Conor Gallagher the opportunity to assert himself as a first-team player next season if he continues to thrive while on loan at Crystal Palace, according to reports. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to life at Selhurst Park, chipping in with two goals and an assist since joining the Eagles on a temporary basis over the summer.

Gallagher has long been touted as one of Chelsea’s finest young prospects and is living up to the billing so far this season.

He has emerged as a key man for Palace under Patrick Vieira and was at his very best during Saturday’s win over Tottenham.

The on-loan Blues man set up Odsonne Edouard for his second goal of the afternoon and was an energetic presence in the middle of the park throughout the encounter.

Gallagher was a hit during his previous loan spells at West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City and Charlton Athletic before making the switch to Palace.

However, Chelsea are hoping that he will finally be ready to step up and perform for the Blues next season, according to Eurosport.

The report claims that Gallagher will be given the chance to shine in Thomas Tuchel’s first-team if he continues to impress for Palace between now and the end of the campaign.

There is said to be a ‘total belief’ that he will earn his place at Chelsea with a fruitful campaign in south London, and it seems as though he is currently on the right track.

Gallager joined the Blues as an eight-year-old and spent a decade in the club’s youth academy before signing his first professional contract three years ago.

He could soon be primed to follow the likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori in successfully making the jump to their first-team if things go well this season.

Palace boss Vieira singled out Gallagher for special praise after his performance against Tottenham, who fell to their first defeat of the new Premier League season on Saturday.

“He’s full of energy, he likes to get inside the box,” Vieira told BT Sport after the final whistle.

“He’s working hard with and without the ball. He loves to get around this area. I believe he’s one of the players who can get a lot of goals for us.

“He’s a lovely kid, his work ethic is fantastic, he comes in everyday with a smile on his face and he wants to improve himself. He’s a positive player.”

Gallagher was also lauded by former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who suggested that he is good enough to go right to the very top.

“Watching him for Palace looks like he’s gone to another level,” O’Hara told talkSPORT.

“He was absolutely fantastic, really enjoyed watching him play. Good on the ball, saw passes before other people.

“The pass for Odsonne Edouard’s second goal, he knew he was there. He didn’t even have to look, so that’s the sign of a top player. He’s definitely one to watch.”
