Chelsea flop who played just 16 games in six years makes 15th career move

A former Chelsea flop, who managed just 16 games for the club, between 2009 and 2015, has sensationally made the 15th transfer move of his career.

Gael Kakuta, 31, has joined French second-tier outfit Amiens, for the third time in his career, leaving unbeaten Ligue 1 side Lens on a free transfer. Formerly on the books at Stamford Bridge, Kakuta completed a highly-contested switch to the Chelsea academy back in 2007 which initially resulted in a four-month ban and a hefty €780,000 (£685k) fine, announced by FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber.

The ruling claimed that Kakuta had breached his contract with former side Lens to join Jose Mourinho's men.

As a result, Chelsea were prohibited from signing any players until January 2011 and the club also received a €130k (£115k) fine. The Blues were subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in February 2010 and the transfer ban was immediately lifted.

Despite the off-field antics, Kakuta earned rave reviews during his early years in the academy. The flying winger bagged the Academy Scholar of the Year award in his debut campaign after finishing the season as top scorer with 12 goals in 24 appearances.

However, Kakuta suffered a horrifying double ankle fracture in a friendly match against the Glenn Hoddle Academy in February 2009 and was ruled out for the next six months.

Returning to action in time for the 2009/10 campaign, the Lille-born forward made his senior debut in the Premier League against Wolves before becoming Chelsea's youngest-ever Champions League player – a record now held by Dominic Solanke.

Due to his imperious performances, Kakuta was nominated for the Golden Boy in 2010 and also penned a new bumper four-and-a-half-year deal, prior to joining Fulham on a six-month loan. He netted his first, and only, Premier League goal in a 3-0 win over Sunderland.

Failing to secure a place in the Chelsea first-team, the Frenchman, who later changed his international allegiance to DR Congo, turned out for Bolton, Dijon, Vitesse, Lazio and Rayo Vallecano before finally leaving the Blues permanently in the summer of 2015. Kakuta headed to southern Spain, joining Sevilla for a £2.5million compensation fee, though he made just two La Liga outings.

Kakuta then signed for Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune in February 2016, before spending his latter career fluctuating between Spain and France.
