Chelsea flop Ross Barkley now even been axed from Europa Conference League squad
Chelsea flop Ross Barkley has been axed from Nice’s squad for the Europa Conference League knockout stages.
The 29-year-old midfielder joined the Ligue 1 side in September, having finally left Chelsea after an underwhelming four-year spell in west London. But any plans to revive his career in France have been harder to fulfil than anticipated.
Get French Football News report the former England international has been snubbed from Didier Digard’s 25-man squad ahead of the last-16 round of the European club competition.

Barkley has not been a nailed-on starter for Nice this season. But his omission still comes as a shock given his impact, having made 15 appearances in the league and scored three goals.
The former Everton star was not included in the squad for the group stages of the competition either, though that was down to the Englishman joining the club too late to be registered.
Reports suggest Barkley had expected to be named in the squad – with three spaces up for grabs. However, he will be left feeling gutted knowing January signings Terem Moffi and Youssouf Ndayishimiye, as well as a youngster Badredine Bouanani, have been selected instead.

Bouanani in particular is still a teenager and has started just one game for the side this campaign. Meanwhile, Barkley netted twice in Nice’s 2-1 win over Montpellier last month.
It comes at an uncertain point during his career, having found playing time hard to come by at Chelsea since his big 2018 move. He featured just 14 times for the Blues last season and 24 times on loan at Aston Villa the season before that.
Barkley’s Nice contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
