Chelsea fans want Anthony Taylor banned from refereeing games after controversy

More than 35,000 people have signed a petition demanding Premier League official Anthony Taylor from refereeing Chelsea matches.

Taylor once again found himself at the heart of another controversial match involving Thomas Tuchel’s side. Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane nodded in a 96th minute equaliser to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw for Spurs at Stamford Bridge.

However, the manner of the north Londoners’ second goal has caused huge controversy, as Tottenham defender Cristian Romero appeared to yank the hair of Chelsea’s £60m summer signing Marc Cucurella in the build-up to the goal. And instead of trying to content themselves with a singular point, Blues fans have taken to Change.org to try and force a change.

A petition titled ‘Ban Anthony Taylor From Officiating Chelsea Games’ has, at the time of writing, generated over 35,000 signatures. The Chelsea fan, well can only assume it is a Blues’ fan, who went to the trouble of making the petition has even listed several controversial moments dating back to the 2017 FA Cup Final against Arsenal, when current Tottenham boss Antonio Conte was still manager of the club.

“Anthony Taylor has continued to make big decisions against Chelsea over the years in big matches,” the petition states. “Taylor has an agenda against Chelsea and should not be allowed to referee a game involving the club again.”

It has also included previous decisions such as the time Manchester United captain Harry Maguire caught Michy Batshuayi in his very precious place with a very high boot during the 2019-20 campaign. Many more decisions from previous seasons have also been mentioned.

And Tuchel hinted the rest of the Chelsea players are beginning to feel a distrust towards Taylor. "Absolutely," he said, when asked if the fans were right to disagree with Taylor’s decisions.

"I can assure you that it's not just the fans, the whole dressing room thinks that. I cannot understand how the first goal is not a foul or how a player can be pulled by the hair during a corner.

"I am curious what the explanation is. Both [Tottenham] goals should not stand."
