Chelsea fans in stitches as Tuchel suffers chewing gum gaffe on sidelines

Chelsea fans were left in stitches by Thomas Tuchel who could not contain his anger as his chewing gum flew out of his mouth at Stamford Bridge.

It happened in the midpoint of the first half during their Champions League clash against Lille when the Blues had took their foot off the gas, incensing their manager.

Kai Havertz had put the home side a goal up after a blistering start to the game where the German had three chances in eight minutes.

Third time was the charm, though, when he nodded in a Hakim Ziyech corner but one player got on Tuchel’s nerves.

After Jonathan Bamba had escaped Marcos Alonso yet again down the flank, the German coach was absolutely raging.

While screaming at the defender, cameras picked up a piece of chewing gum fly out of his mouth mid-rant.

It left Chelsea fans laughing their heads off, including this one who said: “Thomas Tuchel dropping his gum is a major meme.”

“RIP to Thomas Tuchel’s gum,” another tweeted.

And this fan said, to paraphrase Marcus Rashford: “Thomas Tuchel. Get that chewing gum of yours up into your mouth immediately.”

While a fourth had a pertinent question, asking: “Thomas Tuchel is not gonna put that gum back in his mouth right?”

After the match, Tuchel did clear up the situation when asked what happened with his chewing gum.

He joked: “I was shouting and chewing at the same time and this is not the combination. Normally I catch it. I did not catch it. Something to laugh about."

The former Paris Saint-Germain coach did calm down in the second-half, considerably after Christian Pulisic doubled Chelsea’s lead after a brilliant run from N’Golo Kante.

And a dominant display in defence from Thiago Silva meant Lille could not get close enough to threaten Edouard Mendy with the Blues taking a decent lead to France next month for the second leg.
